Gatineau police won’t lay charges against two teenagers who allegedly donned clown masks and frightened children at a park on Monday.

Parents called police on Monday around 2:40 p.m. when a boy and a girl in clown masks—one of whom was carrying a chain—were scaring small children in the Limbour Park area.

Police quickly identified the pair after news outlets posted the story online Wednesday morning.

Const. Pierre Lanthier said police officers will meet with them to talk about their actions.

“You cannot scare young kids like they did,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, but no charges will be laid, he said. “There was not intent doing something bad to the kids, they just wanted to scare them.”

Police said no one was ever in danger, and no one was injured.

“They were yelling stuff at the kids, but not bad stuff,” Lanthier said. “They just wanted to scare them.”
